Loan interest rates in Switzerland 2026
The statutory maximum interest rate for cash loans was increased from 11 % to 1 January 2026. 10 % reduced. The following new rules apply to overdrafts and credit cards. 12 %. The basis is the ordinance on the Consumer Credit Act: The decisive factor is the SARON (SAR3MC) compounded over three months plus 10 percentage points, rounded to the nearest whole number. The rate is reviewed annually at the end of August.
| Gültig ab | Barkredit | Überziehungskredit |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Januar 2026 | 10 % | 12 % |
| 1. Januar 2025 | 11 % | 13 % |
| 1. Januar 2024 | 12 % | 14 % |
A loan agreement with an interest rate exceeding the maximum rate is void according to Article 14 of the Consumer Credit Act (KKG). In this case, you only owe the loan amount, not interest or costs.
What this means for your offer
The interest rate you actually receive is almost never the legal maximum. It depends on your creditworthiness, the loan amount, the loan term, and the internal guidelines of the respective bank. The range at our partner banks currently lies between 4,9 % and 9,95 % Effective annual interest rate. Because we request quotes from several providers simultaneously, you see the range of offers for your profile instead of just a single offer.

I was in debt with 4 credit cards. Through the Best Finance newsletter I became aware that I was paying up to 15 % interest and additional fees unnecessarily. With one loan I paid off all 4 credit cards and now I only pay half of the interest. Thank you Mr Ferraro for the professional advice.

While searching for a lender, I came across your financial institution on the internet. The application, the personal support and the quick disbursement worked out perfectly! Thanks to your confidence in me as a person and the targeted handling of the transaction, I was able to solve a very important family circumstance for me! I recently used the service of Best Finance and I am very satisfied. The process was straightforward and the team was extremely helpful. I would particularly like to thank Mr Dino Ferraro, who dealt with my request efficiently and quickly. I can highly recommend Best Finance! 👍
I have only had very good experiences with Best-Finance GmbH and am completely satisfied. The customer service is consistently friendly, competent and always ready to help. The entire team is highly committed to its customers and takes care of all concerns with noticeable care, warmth and professionalism. I would particularly like to emphasise the personal support: you feel that you are taken seriously, given the best advice and given excellent support at every stage. Thanks to the dedicated work of the Best Finance team, I finally received my loan approval from the bank. However, I would like to emphasise that my satisfaction is independent of the loan result. Even if the bank had made a negative decision, my positive rating would not have changed in any way. The service, communication and commitment of the team were exemplary in every respect. A big thank you to the entire Best Finance team for their great commitment and the many friendly and pleasant contacts, especially with Mr Mzi and Mr Berisha. I can recommend Best Finance without reservation and wish the entire team all the best for the future. See you next time!
Very obliging. Everything went smoothly, although the requirements were changed several times

Frequently asked questions about loans in Switzerland
Requirements
Who is eligible for a personal loan in Switzerland?
Adults residing in Switzerland with a regular income from an ongoing, uncancelled employment contract, no pending debt collection proceedings, and no negative ZEK (Central Office for Credit Information) entry. The maximum age at the time of contract signing is usually 64 to 65 years.
Will I receive a loan with a B, C, G or L approval?
With a C permit, the same requirements apply as for Swiss citizens. With a B permit, a loan is generally possible if you have held the permit for six to twelve months and are employed by the same employer. Only a few lenders accept L and G permit holders – it's advisable to call ahead before applying. Nationality itself does not play a role in loan approval.
Can I get a loan as a self-employed person?
Most employers require a permanent contract, but there are exceptions. In such cases, tax returns and annual financial statements for the last two to three years are required. Details can be found on our website. Loan for self-employed people.
Part-time work, probationary period or fixed-term contract – is that possible?
Part-time work is generally unproblematic as long as the income is regular. Virtually all banks reject applications during the probationary period. For fixed-term contracts, it depends on whether the loan term falls within the contract duration. Only a few lenders accept temporary employment.
Can I get a loan as a pensioner?
In most cases, obtaining a loan is not possible if you are solely receiving old-age and survivors' insurance (AHV) or disability insurance (IV) benefits. If you have additional earned income or a pension fund payment, an individual assessment is recommended.
How high does my income need to be?
Some providers require a minimum net income of CHF 30,000, 40,000, or 54,000 per year, while others have no fixed limit. Ultimately, the decisive factor is not the absolute amount, but whether the budget calculations work out according to the Swiss Federal Law on Consumer Protection (KKG).
Amount, interest and costs
How is the maximum loan amount calculated?
The budget calculation is based on the Consumer Credit Act. Taxes, rent, health insurance, basic living expenses according to SKOS guidelines, commuting costs, food, and existing obligations are deducted from net income. The remaining amount must cover the loan payment, with the bank legally calculating based on a notional term of 36 months – even if you choose a longer term.
What does my interest rate depend on?
Creditworthiness, loan amount, term, and the bank's internal guidelines all play a role. In practice, only a few borrowers receive the advertised lowest interest rates, and these are often tied to conditions such as home ownership. A realistic approach is to find a rate within the range – and we'll show you exactly that with several offers.
What are the costs associated with Best Finance's brokerage services?
Nothing. In Switzerland, loan brokerage is legally free for borrowers. We are compensated by the partner bank where the loan agreement is finalized. Providers who demand upfront payment are disreputable – steer clear of them.
What is the maximum legal interest rate?
Since January 1, 2026, the maximum interest rate has been 10 % for cash loans and 12 % for overdrafts such as credit cards. It is calculated as the SARON interest rate plus 10 percentage points, compounded over three months. Contracts exceeding this maximum rate are void according to Article 14 of the Consumer Credit Act (KKG).
Can I deduct the interest from my taxes?
Yes. Loan interest is tax-deductible as debt interest. Leasing costs, on the other hand, are not – that's one of the reasons why a Car loan versus leasing It's often worthwhile.
Does my loan fall under the Consumer Credit Act?
Loans up to CHF 80,000 are subject to the Consumer Credit Act (KKG) with all its protective provisions – right of withdrawal, creditworthiness check, interest rate cap. Amounts exceeding this are not covered. We will notify you as soon as your request exceeds this limit.
Procedure and payout
How long does it take to receive the payout?
Depending on the provider and the completeness of your documents, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days for you to receive confirmation. After you sign the contract, the statutory 14-day cancellation period begins; payment can only be made after this period has expired. Expect the entire process to take approximately three weeks. No provider in Switzerland is permitted to shorten this period.
What documents do I need?
ID card or passport (front and back), the last three payslips, and, if a foreign national's ID card, a copy of the permit. Depending on the bank, bank statements, rental agreement, health insurance policy, debt enforcement extract, or, in the case of loan repayment, the final statement of the existing loan may also be required.
Is the request binding?
No. You can withdraw at any time, even after receiving an offer. Only your signature on the loan agreement is legally binding – and even then, the 14-day right of withdrawal applies.
Will the query generate a ZEK entry?
Not with us. An entry in the credit bureau's database only appears when an application is submitted to a bank. That's precisely why we check beforehand where your chances are best – every rejected application puts you at a disadvantage for future inquiries.
Can I repay the loan early?
Yes, anytime and without penalty. Unused interest will be refunded. Fees for early termination of a consumer loan agreement are prohibited by law.
Can I redeem or increase existing loans?
Yes. Multiple loans, leases, and credit card balances can be consolidated into one contract. Whether this is worthwhile depends on the new interest rate and the remaining term – we'll calculate it for you beforehand. Learn more at Repaying a loan.
When things get difficult
What if I was in debt collection?
A completed and paid debt collection case doesn't rule out a loan, but it does make it more difficult. Ongoing debt collection proceedings or outstanding certificates of loss almost always lead to rejection. Tell us openly – this will save you a rejection that will be visible in the ZEK database.
Why was my enquiry rejected?
Banks are not required to give reasons. In practice, they almost always include: a budget that is not sustainable according to the Consumer Credit Act (KKG), a negative entry in the Central Credit Register (ZEK), ongoing debt collection proceedings, an insufficient employment period, or a residence permit that does not cover the desired loan term. We'll tell you which reason was likely the cause and what can be done about it.
I already have debts – should I take out a loan?
Generally, no. An additional loan usually exacerbates existing debt problems. Contact a cantonal debt counseling service; this advice is free and independent. Debt consolidation can be worthwhile if you can currently afford your installments and are simply paying excessive interest – we would be happy to honestly assess this with you.
How can I recognize an unreliable provider?
Three warning signs: Money is demanded upfront, for example, for an alleged processing or renovation fee. The legal notice lists a foreign address. Or a loan is promised without a credit check or despite a ZEK entry – this is not permitted in Switzerland.
Can I get a loan if I live abroad?
Generally, no. Reputable Swiss lenders require Swiss residency. Some providers accept Liechtenstein residents, and there are rare exceptions for cross-border commuters.
Is my partner also liable?
No. Whoever signs is solely liable. A partner's income is only included in the budget calculation if you are married or in a registered partnership.
