- No mileage limit no service commitment
- Interest is tax deductible It's not lease payments.
- Sell anytime or replace prematurely

Short and clear
With a car loan, the vehicle belongs to you from day one. With leasing, it remains the property of the leasing company. You buy with cash, can negotiate the price, and are not bound by a mileage limit or a lease agreement. You can sell the car whenever you want. Whether a loan is cheaper for you will only become clear after comparing it with your specific lease offer. That's exactly what the calculator below is for.
- Credit amountCHF 5'000 – CHF 300'000
- Duration12 – 120 Months
- Effective annual interest rate4,9 % – 9,95 %
- Early repaymentanytime, without additional costs
What will your lease cost over the entire term?
It's best to have your lease offer on hand. For comparison, you'll need four pieces of information: vehicle price, monthly payment, lease term, and residual value. The calculator compares both options over the entire term. This way, you'll see not only the monthly payment but also the total costs, the value at the end of the lease term, and the interest included in your lease offer.

Do you want to keep the car? The car loan will cost you over the entire loan term. CHF 0 less. The vehicle belongs to you from day one.
Do you want to keep the car? In this comparison, the car loan costs more over the loan term. CHF 0 More. But the vehicle belongs to you from the start. You have no mileage limit and can sell it at any time. Whether this freedom is worth the extra cost depends on your situation.
The car loan is valid for the entire loan term. CHF 0 lower. The vehicle's value at the end has already been deducted, because you can sell the car and keep the proceeds.
Over the entire loan term, the car loan in this comparison costs CHF 0 More. The vehicle's value at the end of its lifespan is already factored in. Therefore, if you plan to change vehicles every few years anyway, leasing may be the more economical solution for you.
What this calculation doesn't yet include
- Comprehensive insurance for the entire duration. As long as the vehicle belongs to the leasing company, comprehensive insurance is mandatory. This also applies to a car that you, as the owner, might only insure with partial coverage. If you know the additional annual cost, enter it under "Additional costs for comprehensive insurance".
- Additional kilometers. If you exceed the agreed mileage allowance, you will be charged approximately 20 to 40 cents per additional kilometer, depending on the contract. Therefore, 10,000 extra kilometers could cost between CHF 2,000 and 4,000 upon return.
- Condition upon return. The vehicle will be inspected upon return. Normal wear and tear is covered. However, damage beyond that may incur additional costs – such as scratches, dents, stone chips, or severely worn tires. Depending on the condition, this can amount to several thousand Swiss francs.
With a car loan, the vehicle belongs to you. This means you decide on insurance, mileage, and repairs yourself. There is no return inspection by a leasing company.
Please enter the remaining value. If you intend to keep the car at the end of the lease, the contractual purchase price is included in the lease costs. Without this value, the comparison would be incomplete and would make the lease appear too cheap.
These figures do not mathematically correspond to a valid lease agreement. The vehicle price, monthly payment, loan term, and residual value do not result in a plausible financing arrangement in this combination. The monthly payment is too low for the registered residual value.
Even for amortization alone, around CHF 0 Required per month – not including interest. Please check the rate and residual value on your offer.
This information results in an unusually high leasing interest rate. Theoretically, it's over 15 percent. Please check the values you entered first. If they are correct, you can send us the offer for review.
The required loan amount is below the minimum amount of CHF 5'000.The loan rate shown above is therefore only a guideline.
The lease values are based on your input; VAT is included in the lease payment. The lease payment and lease interest rate are linked: Enter one value, and the calculator will calculate the other. The totals are based on the exact payments displayed. If you select "return," the residual value will be deducted from the car loan as the vehicle's value. The reason is simple: The car belongs to you and can be sold at the end of the lease. This ensures both columns compare the same starting point. The difference remains the same in both modes. Your loan interest rate depends on your credit rating; you can select from a range of... 4,9 % bis 9,95 %.Not included are excess mileage, return damage, service, taxes, and any potential tax deduction for loan interest. Comprehensive insurance additional costs are only included if you specify an amount for them.
Car loan and leasing in direct comparison
Both options have their strengths. The crucial factor is which one best suits your needs and your offering.
| Car loan | leasing | |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership of the vehicle | from the first day with you | remains with the leasing company |
| kilometers | unlimited | Contractually limited, additional kilometers cost extra |
| Service and maintenance | free choice of garage | Brand garage is usually required |
| Insurance | Freely selectable, partial comprehensive insurance is often sufficient | Comprehensive insurance mandatory |
| Negotiating position when buying | You pay in cash and can negotiate a discount. | The price is part of the lease agreement. |
| Taxes | Interest payments are deductible as debt interest. | Lease payments are not tax-deductible |
| VAT on the rate | no | included in the rate |
| Premature exit | Possible at any time; unused interest will be refunded. | often associated with considerable costs |
| Sell vehicle | at any time, the proceeds are yours | not possible |
| If you want to change every two to three years | Then leasing can be a good fit – especially if you regularly want a new vehicle and don't want to take care of the resale yourself. | |
Costs outside the lease payment
The monthly payment only shows part of the total cost. Depending on the contract and usage, additional costs may apply. You should consider these four points when comparing offers.
Comprehensive insurance is mandatory.
As long as the vehicle belongs to the leasing company, comprehensive insurance is mandatory. With an older used car, you as the owner might opt for partial coverage. With leasing, this choice is no longer available – and therefore the insurance can cost more per year.
Service in the brand garage
Many leasing contracts require service and maintenance to be performed by the authorized dealer. An independent garage is then not an option, even if it would be cheaper for the same work.
Additional kilometers
The agreed mileage is what counts. If you drive more, the extra mileage will be calculated upon return – depending on the contract, at around 20 to 40 centimes per kilometer. For 10,000 additional kilometers, that amounts to CHF 2,000 to 4,000.
Condition upon return
Upon return, the vehicle's condition will be inspected. Normal wear and tear is covered. Additional costs may apply for damage beyond this – such as scratches, dents, stone chips, or severely worn tires. In some cases, this can amount to several thousand Swiss francs.
Early exit: often associated with additional costs
A lease agreement can be terminated early, but this can be expensive. Especially early in the term, the outstanding balance often exceeds the vehicle's value. In contrast, you can repay a consumer loan early at any time; unused interest is refunded. This is regulated by the Consumer Credit Act.
You already have a lease agreement and are considering terminating it? Replacement This can be beneficial. The final invoice and the current vehicle value are crucial. We calculate both of these before you enter into any new commitment.
New car, used car or private sale
A consumer loan is unsecured. This means you're not tied to a specific dealer, brand, or vehicle age. This offers greater flexibility, especially with used cars. Leasing is significantly less common for older vehicles; it's generally not an option at all for private sales.
Once the money is in your account, you buy like a cash buyer. Then you negotiate the vehicle price itself – not just the monthly payment.
If your situation changes, you can sell the car and use the proceeds to repay the loan in full or in part. You do not have to terminate the lease agreement early.
Here's what you should know
- The loan is unsecured – you don't have to specify which car you want to buy.
- Buying from a private seller, from a garage, or from abroad is equally possible.
- Loan interest is deductible as debt interest in the tax return.
- Loans up to CHF 80,000 are subject to the KKG (Collective Credit Act) with all its protective provisions.
- A non-binding inquiry with us will not result in a ZEK entry.

Customer testimonials
Here's what our customers say
I have only had very good experiences with Best-Finance GmbH and am completely satisfied. The customer service is consistently friendly, competent and always ready to help. The entire team is highly committed to its customers and takes care of all concerns with noticeable care, warmth and professionalism. I would particularly like to emphasise the personal support: you feel that you are taken seriously, given the best advice and given excellent support at every stage. Thanks to the dedicated work of the Best Finance team, I finally received my loan approval from the bank. However, I would like to emphasise that my satisfaction is independent of the loan result. Even if the bank had made a negative decision, my positive rating would not have changed in any way. The service, communication and commitment of the team were exemplary in every respect. A big thank you to the entire Best Finance team for their great commitment and the many friendly and pleasant contacts, especially with Mr Mzi and Mr Berisha. I can recommend Best Finance without reservation and wish the entire team all the best for the future. See you next time!

Frequently asked questions about car loans and leasing
The comparison
Is a car loan cheaper than leasing?
Often, yes. But not automatically. Key factors include the potential cash discount, the mandatory comprehensive insurance for leasing, excess mileage, and the residual value at the end of the lease. Therefore, the most informative comparison is with your own offer. If leasing is cheaper, the calculator will show exactly that.
Why does the calculator factor in the vehicle's value at the end?
Otherwise, two different situations would be compared. With a lease and return option, you no longer own the vehicle at the end. With a loan, you own the car and can sell it. Therefore, in "return" mode, the vehicle's value is deducted from the loan amount. This ensures the starting point is the same for both options. As a control, the difference between the two options remains identical, regardless of whether you choose "keep" or "return.".
Doesn't leasing have lower interest rates than a loan?
This is a common occurrence. Therefore, you can directly compare leasing and loan interest rates in the calculator. By selecting "Equalize leasing interest rate with loan interest rate," both options are calculated using the exact same rate. In the example shown, the loan remains cheaper for two reasons: VAT is levied on the leasing payment, but not on the loan payment. Furthermore, with leasing, a portion of the capital is only repaid with the residual value at the end of the lease term, thus accruing interest for a longer period. With a vehicle price of CHF 35,000, a 48-month term, and a residual value of CHF 15,000, this results in approximately CHF 2,000 in VAT and approximately CHF 1,400 in additional interest.
The comparison only tips in favor of leasing at this term if the interest rate falls below approximately 1.8 percent. This threshold depends little on the vehicle price, but primarily on the lease term: at 24 months it's around 1.1 percent, and at 60 months around 2.0 percent. If your offer is below this, leasing is cheaper in this comparison.
Why does the lease payment seem cheaper than the loan payment?
Because the two payments finance different things. With leasing, you primarily pay depreciation and interest during the term; at the end, the agreed residual value remains outstanding. With a loan, the entire purchase price is repaid, and the vehicle belongs to you. Therefore, the monthly payments alone are not very informative. A more accurate comparison is made by considering the total costs, including the residual value.
When is leasing the better choice?
Leasing can be a good option if you want a new vehicle every two to three years and don't want to deal with resale yourself. It's important that your mileage remains predictable. Furthermore, different tax considerations apply to company cars than to private vehicles.
I don't know the residual value of my lease agreement. What now?
Look for terms like "residual value," "final payment," or "calculated vehicle value at contract end" in the offer. If this information is missing, you can enter a typical market value into the calculator. Depending on the contract term, this is usually around 35 to 62 percent of the original purchase price. However, for an accurate comparison, you need the value from your specific offer.
Costs and taxes
Can I deduct the interest from my taxes?
Yes. Loan interest can be deducted as debt interest on your tax return; lease payments cannot. Depending on the loan amount, term, and your personal tax situation, this can amount to several hundred francs over the years. This effect is not included in the calculator above.
Is VAT charged on the loan payment?
No. VAT is not charged on loan payments. However, it is included in lease payments. This is one of the reasons why two interest rates with the same amount do not automatically result in the same total cost.
What are the costs associated with Best Finance's brokerage services?
Our services are free of charge for borrowers. If a loan agreement is concluded, we receive a commission from the respective partner bank. You do not pay us a brokerage fee.
Can I repay the car loan early?
Yes. You can repay a consumer loan early at any time without penalty. Unused interest will be credited or refunded. If you sell the car, you can use the proceeds to repay the loan.
Vehicle and purchase
Can I also finance a used car or a car from a private seller?
Yes. A consumer loan is unsecured. You can use it to finance a new car, a used car, or a vehicle from a private seller, and you are not tied to a specific brand or dealer. This is particularly relevant for private purchases, as leasing is usually not an option.
Do I have to specify which car I'm buying?
No. After the payout, the money will be in your account, and you decide which vehicle to buy. However, two pieces of information will help us advise you: the approximate purchase price and the planned purchase date.
Can I buy out an existing lease?
Yes, generally speaking. Whether it's worthwhile depends on the settlement amount and the current value of the vehicle. Especially early in the loan term, the outstanding amount can be higher than the car's value. Therefore, the final settlement should be carefully calculated beforehand.
Procedure and requirements
How quickly will I receive the money?
After signing, the statutory 14-day cancellation period begins (Art. 16 KKG). The bank cannot release funds before this period expires. Therefore, you should allow approximately three weeks for the entire process. If the merchant sets a delivery date, it's best to adhere to this deadline from the outset.
What documents do I need?
We generally need your ID card or passport, front and back, as well as your last three payslips. If you have a foreign national ID card, we also need a copy of your permit. Depending on the bank, other documents may be required, such as bank statements, your rental agreement, or health insurance policy.
Will my request generate a ZEK entry?
A non-binding inquiry with us alone will not generate a ZEK entry. The ZEK only becomes relevant when an application is submitted to a bank. Therefore, we check beforehand which partner bank best suits your situation, instead of unnecessarily distributing the same inquiry widely.
Can I get a car loan with a B-card?
With a C permit, the same requirements generally apply as for Swiss citizens. A loan is often possible with a B permit if the permit has been valid for six to twelve months and the employment relationship is stable. The possible loan term depends, among other things, on the validity of the permit.
Request a non-binding car loan offer
The inquiry is non-binding. There is no fee for the service; you will receive personal advice in six languages.
